From the article: The Safe Cosmetics Act of 2010
There has been a LOT of talk on the soap, cosmetics and toiletry blogs lately about the Safe Cosmetics Bill of 2010. A lot! But what do you think? Is this bill justified? Or is it too much regulation? Will it affect what you buy? Will it affect your business? What do you think?
Oppose
- I responded to the Act through Facebook and am very much opposed. The government says they want to encourage small business, but this is going to kill a lot of small businesses. Not sure they know if they are thinking!

story of stuff
- It often seems the case that the more simple and scary the information given, the more misleading it is. What I can't grasp is the real motivation behind the Safe Cosmetics Act. I know of no big news stories of people harmed by cosmetics, so I can't understand this latest "crisis." It seems that lots of studies are done that the FDA uses to keep us safe. We cannot make life perfectly safe - I wouldn't be surprised if my city water has more trace elements in it than my shampoo (I've seen the study on the water). Should we ban air and water until it has no "harmful elements" in it? Of course what's not in the video is what will affect me personally - that is that the stringent requirements of the law will be imposed on businesses small and large. I will not be able to launch my new soap making business as planned if I have to have all my soaps and lotions tested. This bill will make all products very expensive and will KILL SMALL BUSINESS!!
