Notes:
- As I said earlier, you can use this technique using any two colors.
- This technique also works well swirling with vanilla fragrance oil. Instead of the blue colorant, you just add the vanilla fragrance oil to the half batch of soap.
- To add a third color, you just divide the batch into three bowls and alternate pouring the same way. It's hard - you have to move quickly. I recommend having an assistant to do a three-color swirl!
- Some base oils, like rice bran and castor oil can speed up your trace quite a bit, not leaving you with much time to swirl. In recipes I'm doing big swirls in, I keep my olive oil ratios high and my castor oil ratios low.
- Some fragrance oils will also speed up trace. To help slow this down, I mix the fragrance oil in 3-4 ounces of warmed base oil before I put it into the batch. This seems to "shock" the soap batch less and give you some more time.
