Cleaning Votive Candle Molds

One of the great things about making votive candles with metal votive molds is how easy it is to do. Drop a wick pin into the mold...pour your candle...let it cool...pop it out...add a wick! Done!

But how do you clean the little bits of wax left in the molds (or on the outside)? Just as easily!

Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: About 15 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Preheat your oven to its lowest setting. For me, that's 170 degrees. Do not use this technique if your oven's lowest setting is above 200 degrees.
  2. Lay a folded over paper towel into the baking pan...or lay two layers of paper towels on the cookie sheet.
  3. Arrange your votive molds upside down on the paper towels. Place the votive pins beside them.
  4. Place them in the warm oven for about 15 minutes or so.
  5. Pull them out of the oven. You'll notice that the little bit of wax leftover will have melted and run onto the paper towels.
  6. Holding them with a cloth (they'll still be hot), give them a final wipe out with a clean paper towel.

Tips:

  1. Set them aside to cool off before you re-stack them together. Don't stack them together while they're still hot, or you'll have a hard time getting them apart later! (Don't ask me how I know this...)
  2. If you just need to clean a molds off, you can use a heat gun to heat them up and wipe them out with a paper towel.
