Waiting for your lye-water mixture to cool down to the temperature needed to blend it with your oils can take a while, sometimes even an hour or two. One easy way to cool it quicker is to place it in a water bath in your sink.

Place the lye-water pitcher in the sink. Slowly run enough water to come up nearly level with the lye-water mixture in the pitcher. If you run too much water into the sink, the pitcher will start to float and may tip over.

Every five or ten minutes, gently move the water around in the sink. This will let the cooler water come into contact with the pitcher.

The water bath will help the lye cool much quicker than just leaving it on the counter top.
