You'll see the wax on the sides cool and solidify immediately. It will likely also give you a frothy, bubbly top. Don't worry about this, you're going to have to do a second pour, and this will be covered up.

When a skin has formed over the top of the pillar, it's a good idea to poke some relief holes in the top. This will allow any air bubbles that have gotten trapped to escape.
