Using a cloth, your knife or your fingers, smooth out the rough carved edges.

You can also give the candle shells a quick blast or two with a heat gun. This will melt the outer edges and make them smoother.

Then, cover the holes with at least two layers of masking tape. Rub your fingers over the edges of the holes to make sure that the tape is sealing the holes well. (See the ghost candle for more pictures of this step.
