Question: Are there different kinds or grades of Gel Wax?
Answer: Penreco's VersaGel is available in three versions called "Grades":
- CLP grade (Low Density) (Buy Direct)
Low Density gel melts and pours the easiest, but it isn't thick enough to support embeds, and can only hold up to about 3% fragrance oil. If you don't need to suspend embeds and/or don't need the candle to be strongly scented, it's a great gel to use. - CMP grade (Medium Density) (Buy Direct)
Medium Density is probably the most widely used. It will hold up to about 5% fragrance oil, and will hold embeds suspended pretty well. If your embeds are light (glitter, small shells, small beads etc.), this is a good gel to use. It melts and pours relatively easily. - CHP grade (High Density) (Buy Direct)
High Density gel gives you the ability to suspend dense pigments, glitters or other (non-flammable) embeds. It's a bit harder to melt and pour - it's pretty thick - but it holds fragrance oil well (the specs say up to 5%, but I've used 6% with good results.))
