Question: What kind of colorants can I use in gel candles?
Answer: I have found that oil-soluble, liquid candle dyes work the best for gel. Powdered dyes, and dye blocks, that are fine in paraffin wax, just seem to clump and cloud in gel wax. (Though check with your supplier - there are dye blocks and powders out there that work fine in gel.) I have seen some interesting effects with glitters and micas in gel, but they were for "effect" not for color.
The other thing to remember is that it just takes a tiny tiny bit of color to color the gel. Put a tiny drop of the liquid dye on the tip of a toothpick and stir it in...one tiny bit at a time. You'll be amazed at how little it takes.
