Dipping Into a Water Bath

David Fisher
After the first dip, wait at least 30 seconds for the wax to cool and harden a bit. If you dip again too soon, you'll just melt away the layer you just placed.

A variation to help speed things along is to dip the candle into a cool water bath in between dips. There are pros and cons to this:

  • the candle cools quicker and you can dip again right away
  • it's easy to get droplets of water in the wax, as well as droplets that will cause bubbles on the surface of the candle
If you do decide to use a water bath, be sure that you get all of the droplets of water off of the candle before you dip again.
