Many people get their first taste of soap making with melt and pour soap. It's easy, inexpensive, and you can make a good basic bar of custom soap in under and hour with equipment you probably already have around the house. But melt and pour soap making doesn't have to be just "basic" - some of the most beautiful soaps I've ever seen have been crafted out of melt and pour soap base. Here are some of my favorite books that showcase the versatility and fun of melt and pour soap making.
1. Melt and Mold Soap Crafting by C. Kaila Westerman
One of the best and most thorough books on melt and pour soap making I've seen. Westerman covers it all from choosing a quality base, to coloring and scenting your soap, as well as gives dozens of projects/recipes for all levels of experience. Wonderful photos of the projects and clear, easy to read instructions.
2. 300 Handcrafted Soaps by Marie Browning
This is a wonderful book for anyone who wants to take their melt and pour soap making to the next level - whatever level you might be. If you're a beginner, there are lots of easy-to-follow projects here for you with good, clear instructions. For advanced soap makers there are even more projects (300 total in the book!) for you, and a wealth of soap making inspiration. A wonderful creative resource with beautiful photos!
3. Kids' Crafts: Soapmaking: 50 Fun & Fabulous Soaps to Melt & Pour
Actually, there are over 50 recipes/projects in this book. While it's geared towards kids, it contains fun for all ages with easy-to-make soap projects for all members of the family, including the dog. Lots of good bits of trivia, color theory and soapy information too. A great book for a parent soap maker who's trying to get their child excited about soap making.
