Question: What Equipment and/or Tools Do I Need to Start Making Soap?
Dee from Upstate New York writes "Please tell me what you feel are the top 5-10 pieces of equipment that I must have to begin?"
Answer: We all start somewhere...

And Dee has gotten a really good start. She shared, "I have a good supplier for basics. I am going to get a scale, a stick blender, a kit (to include a book w/ directions, scents & a mold), oils from the market (jojoba, castor, olive, shea butter & cocoa butter). Pyrex Measuring cup, good rubber gloves, wooden spoons...and I will get my lye from the hardware store."

Dee's actually lucky that she can buy lye from her hardware store. For a number of years you had to search high and low for lye...and often buy it from an online lye retailer or soap supplies store. As you can see, many of the items she already probably had in her kitchen: a scale, some rubber gloves, measuring cups. Additional items include a stick blender, safety glasses and some miscellaneous other containers.
