Boy at SinkWith all the concern worldwide about the swine flu, I remembered this article I had featured a while back. One of the recommendations I see at the top of lists of things to do to keep yourself healthy and prevent the spread of influenza (and other germs) is just washing your hands regularly and thoroughly. But do you have to use an antibacterial soap? Web MD reports that there is No Advantage to Antibacterial Soap. So it seems that while there is certainly a place for antibacterial soaps, cleaners and hand sanitizers in our lives, it seems that just washing well with good old real soap (and washing long enough to sing your ABC's, I'm reminded) can be just as effective at keeping us clean, safe and healthy.
And here's some more information about antibacterial soaps from our Guide to Housekeeping, Sarah Aguirre.
