Charles "Buddy" Deaton hurt his back on the job several years ago, but now, thanks to his creative and industrious candle making, he's surrounded by the sweet smell of success. After being inspired by his wife’s mantel full of candles, and some thorough research, he started Heart Scent Candles. Now his customers can’t get enough. Good news for the rest of us, he's not alone in being a popular candle maker. Candles are big business these days. In 2006, Americans purchased $746 million worth of candles in accessories (and that doesn't include sales from specialty stores like Yankee Candle Company!) With his great research, creative ideas, dedication to customer service, and willingness to experiment, Deaton and his family are great examples of how a home-based candle maker can really be successful!
