The Magic and Wonder of Beeswax

beeswax tea lightsI don't often buy candles; I don't need to, I have most everything I need to make any kind of candle I could possibly want. But every once in a while, a candle or candle maker will come along that will make me want some of their candles, regardless of whether or not I could make them myself. I came across such a group of candle makers in the article Candle-making nuns know their beeswax. A group of Washington State nuns make the candles for and manage Quiet Light Candles. Two things are remarkable about their candles. First, they only use beeswax. Second, the candle making is not really the object of their work - the prayer and meditation and contemplation is. They "do handicrafts, because our main goal is to try and stay centered on prayer all day. We tried to pick a handicraft that's conducive to that and is also quiet. Hence, the Quiet Light name." Again, we come back to candles and candle light as an almost spiritual (or in this case, a completely spiritual) thing. And when they are made out of pure natural beeswax, it is even more heavenly!
