Whip it Good! (Well, the soap at least...)

Monday May 1, 2006
whiskRecently, I read an article about the history of Ivory soap and the (now debunked) legend that it was made to be "floating" soap by accident - the soap maker was said to have left the mixer on and gone to lunch, whipping lots of air into the soap. I wanted to make some floating soap of my own. About the same time, I read about a soap process called "room temperature cold process" soap making, where all of the ingredients are combined at room temperature - no heat. Then I remembered an amazing soap maker in Australia that made whipped soap - and I knew what this week's project would be: a room temperature, floating, whipped soap!
I've often said soap making was a lot like cooking - but this process/recipe is really like cooking. Try it out!
And be sure to check out Nizzy's amazing whipped soap site!
